1862-2012: 150 Years Later A celebration and remembrance of Dakota Oyate survival.
The purpose of this event is not to retell the events that led up to the U.S.-Dakota conflict that took place starting in August 17th and ended with the hanging of the 38 Dakota on December 26th, 1862. Our history and culture does not end there. Since 1862, we, as Dakota people, have faced and outlasted the efforts of the United States to cleanse us of our culture. This event will highlight and celebrate the efforts of the Dakota people to hold onto their culture.
